This Kia Theft story shows the DARK underworld of car theft that is gripping Baltimore

This weekend saw the sad story of a stolen Kia end with the vehicle being recovered by police. Here, it was completely destroyed and showed a glimpse of the dark underworld of car crime in Baltimore. The story was shared on the popular website Reddit by a resident in Little Italy. A few weeks back, their Kia Soul 2014 was stolen overnight and since then, it hadn’t been found – until yesterday.

In a new update, the user claimed that the car had recently been located in Pikesville and sadly it was utterly destroyed. They went on to claim that the car thief had been chased by police which resulted in the car crashing, and getting written off in the process. Since then, the culprit had been taken into custody.

Not only this but the insurance deemed it as a total loss – which isn’t too surprising given the state of the image shown above. Since the epidemic of Kia theft in the USA, the company has been hit with a huge lawsuit totaling $200 million, while the city of Baltimore is also suing for damages as well.

Although the victim didn’t get hurt, this is still a bad crime to go through. Not only do you have to go through the bureaucracy of chasing the insurer and sorting out a new car – but it’s also the emotional damage of getting a possession stolen that was purchased through hard work. Hopefully, the Kia thefts will stop soon.

It’s also about the process of feeling violated, your car is a personal item, someone stole, driving it. Then there’s finding it totaled, paying the deductible, coming up with a down payment, choosing another car and having to start all over again with car payments, your insurance rate goes up, you may have almost finished paying or had no payments at all. It does stop because the car was found. It still costs the owner.
