“This money saving hack should be illegal” – Savvy Toronto shopper saves big on food shop
Let’s face it, the cost of living in Toronto can be tough at times and recently, groceries have also risen sharply too. However, this one Toronto resident was able to get a whopping 50% off their shop by doing a simple hack that many aren’t aware of.
So, what did they do? This is exactly what they said, “I get up early Sundays and bike around 9 am to the Loblaws near Millwood Laird in East York // South Leaside. This is some of what I got this morning. The boneless Chicken breasts were an especially good deal as it was set price for a package and the package weight varied by 100-150 grams so I got the two largest packages at 681 grams each roughly for 6.00 each.”
As many will know, Loblaws is known for its decent quality, so it’s not exactly like this is unhealthy, super processed food either. The picture shows two chicken breast portions, large sausages, ciabatta bread, cheese, and a fruit salad. Unsurprisingly, Torontonians were quick to praise the shopper and one added, “This money saving hack should be illegal” whilst others claimed the discount represented prices similar to pre 2020.
However, is there a catch? Some locals were quick to point out that Loblaws can be fairly pricey to begin with – and cuts of meat can be found cheaper elsewhere. Similarly, others claimed that these deals were often done on food that was close to its expiry date. Nonetheless, if you have a freezer and desire healthy, fresh food – then it’s certainly a bargain.
