Throwback picture shows dramatic differences in Portland skyline
In a recently unearthed photo, the previous skyline of Portland, Oregon was revealed from yesteryear. To be more precise, this black and white image was taken back in 1955 when times were very different to say the least. As seen in the before and after picture below, PDX had some big differences back in the day.
Whilst Mt. Hood has unsurprisingly stayed the same, there are a few main differences to note. Firstly, the obvious one is the introduction of the Wells Fargo building (pictured towards the left in the second photo). Back in 1955, this did not exist and was built years later in 1969. To this day, it remains the tallest building in Portland.
Aside from this, there is quite a difference in the overall scenery too. Strangely, Portland now seems to be greener these days when you look towards the suburbs. Overall, you’d have thought it would have been the opposite way round!
Interestingly, the skyline hasn’t actually changed that much upon closer inspection and many of the old buildings from the 1950s still remain. Perhaps this is why Portland has maintained its charm many years later. In terms of socioeconomic though, it’s fair to say that a lot has happened in the city since the 50s!
