Too soon? Lexington Subway store makes crude joke – But not everyone is amused
This week saw a Lexington Subway store land in hot water after making a crude pun that was displayed on their billboard. Usually, these billboards are to alert the public of discounts or to show a little humor. However, some claimed that this was a step too far while others found the funny side.
In short, the billboard read, “Our subs don’t implode” which was a nod to the doomed Titanic submarine that recently made the news. Here, the submarine was meant to explore the Titanic ruins, but instead imploded and killed the entire crew instantly. For those who still don’t get it, the link is that Subway sells subs, get it? The store in question is the Lexington eatery at Rincon.
Responding to this on Twitter, one user named Miranda wrote: “Not only is it distasteful, it’s just sad. Do better.” while another person named Kat said: “Too soon but at any other time would be funny”
This shows that humor can be subjective, but sometimes there’s also a time and a place. And in all honesty, just days after the tragedy does seem to be highly insensitive. Since the backlash, the Subway has changed its sign – which may be due to pressure, or it may have just changed it regardless. Why do you only want comments of those that are offended? I thought it was hilarious. It also keys us know that God’s judgement is for the rich as well…
Good Point..
