After looking through local jobs on the Craigslist marketplace, we found this occupation which pays a mere $13.50 per hour. To put this into context, the standard minimum wage in Portland, OR will rise to $14.20 in a few months, on July 1st (2023).

Interestingly though, this job isn’t exactly the easiest in the world and requires a degree of skill. As seen in the aforementioned article, it is an advertisement for an irrigation technician. Now, you may have thought it would be a job such as a kitchen hand, but it turns out this career requires a few things that some may not have.

According to the advert, workers would require “Along with supervisory skills and your proactive manner, we require a minimum of 1 year of productive experience in the installation, inspection and repair of irrigation systems. A valid driver’s license, good knowledge of trenchers, multi-meters, wire locators, ditchers and pipe sizing are also essential.”

It also went on to say that being able to speak Spanish and the ability to create and read site map colored charts/legends would also be beneficial when applying. Having said this, it also did include paid time off, health and wellness coverage, and a 401k savings plan. So, even though this job may seem like most people’s worst nightmare – it at least has some perks.
