Youtuber shows Cambodia Town – Long Beach’s often forgotten history
According to statistics, Cambodians make roughly 4% of the Long Beach population. The influx of Cambodians first occurred in the 1950s when Cambodian refugees fled their homeland in search of a better life abroad. Since then, Long Beach has gone on to become the most populated place on earth with Cambodians (outside of their actual home country, that is).
In this video, a Youtube creator by the name of Travel With Chris explores Cambodia Town in Long Beach. Here, he meets locals, tastes Cambodian food, and listens to their stories about their heritage, history, and culture – as well as their eclectic Cambodian-American identity.
And, speaking of the food – this seems to be a highlight of the video. For those that know, Cambodian food is pretty tasty and healthy. In short, it offers something a bit different compared to the usual US cuisine and if you’re in the area, is worth visiting for.
Overall, this was a pretty wholesome video and showed one of the nicer areas of Long Beach. Not only is it a cultural hotspot, but Cambodia Town also happens to be pretty and well-maintained. This is a nice video to watch compared to the many negative videos in the US that highlight the growing poverty and social issues. So, if you want something to brighten up your day and learn a bit about a fairly unknown culture then give this a watch.
