ZANY Tier List Divides Opinion On Portlands Bridges!
Tier lists have become very popular within the last decade. If you thought you had seen everything there was to see regarding tier lists, think again, as a Portland resident decided to rank all of the cities bridges in a very strange list!
Perhaps the most startling realization was that Portland has just so many large bridges.
Topping the poll was Tilikum crossing, St Johns bridge and Ned Flanders Crossing. At the bottom was the Interstate bridge and Marquam bridge which was unfortunately left in a tier of it’s own, below F.
Marquam bridge is certainly ugly, but it does provide extremely efficient transport links. It’s certainly not the nicest bridge to look at, but there is no doubting its functionality. Furthermore, compared to the other bridges on this list, the Marquam was extremely inexpensive to make and can handle a huge amount of trafffic.
In 2001, then mayor Vera Katz had the following to say about the Marquam bridge, which pretty much sums up everyones feelings “”It’s like having the Berlin Wall dividing east and west, with all the subtle charm of the Daytona 500 smack dab in the middle of our city.”
Some internet users also pointed out that the Burnside bridge should be ranked lower than “C”. According to surveyance in the local area, the Burnside has some serious foundational questions and would be in peril if Portland were to have a large earthquake. The fact that it also goes over both rail lines and a section of freeway makes this bridge even more dangerous.
On the other hand, both Tilikum crossing and Sellwood bridge have been designed with earthquakes in mind and are ready to withstand any seismic activity. Furthermore, although not open to vehicles, Tilikum does cater for ambulances in case of emergency. This is likely why they are rated so highly.
So, do you agree with this tier list or would you have put any bridges higher up the food chain?
