‘Abandoned vehicle notice’ appears on Oakland car – But locals call it a scam

Yesterday, an Oakland resident was understandably confused when they found an ‘Abandoned vehicle notice’ stuck onto their car window. While this notice didn’t give away too much in the way of information, it did say “This vehicle is located on public property. If this vehicle is not removed from public property by the date and time specified above, it will be impounded.”

Now, here’s where things get fishy. According to the person that photographed this notice, their car had been parked across from their house for less than 48 hours, the same way it had been for the past two years. This only adds fuel to the theory that this notice wasn’t legitimate at all, and was actually the work of someone holding a grudge.

Internet detectives were quick to call this sign’s bluff, with some even going as far as to call it a scam. This is because it didn’t have any additional information, such as a phone number, address, or company name regarding who actually left the sign. The blue sticky tape and misaligned box don’t exactly scream professionalism either.

Instead, most agreed that this was probably the work of a disgruntled, passive-aggressive neighbor who was fed up with the parking situation. Furthermore, a former officer also confirmed that this sign was bogus. Based on this, it would be interesting to find out how this one plays out, and whether the anonymous neighbor ever comes forward or pursues this further.
