Man drives 10 Hours in failed Anchorage Craigslist scam

Today, a man took to the popular website Reddit to vent his frustration – as he wasted a whopping 10 hours on a Craigslist scam. Fortunately, the scam didn’t pay off, and it wasn’t exactly sophisticated either. Nonetheless, you can still empathize with his anger after having 10 hours wasted by a chancer.

Here, the man responded to a Craigslist advert for a $5000 Can Am Outlander. Typically, this costs double the price that was offered, so understandably, the potential customer thought they were getting a bargain. Although you may see this as the first red flag, sometimes these deals are genuinely posted for sale.

After traveling 5 hours to Anchor Point, the would-be customer was blocked by the seller, who then picked up minutes later to another number. At this point, the buyer realized that they’d been had and returned home, taking another 5 hours. Interestingly, this advert is still live on Craigslist which shows how well the site is policed.

In short, this scam works by trying to get people to pay before buying. Typically, this takes place by suggesting a bank transfer. Interestingly, the advert also offers to deliver ‘for a fee’ which is yet another way of prying money out of the naive.

As seen in the image above, the photo of the Outlander isn’t even from Anchorage which should be enough to put you off. Sadly, these scams are pretty rampant in Alaska and are fairly hard to police. it goes without saying though, if it seems to good to be true then it probably is.
