The 3 Best Boat/Floating Restaurants in Portland, OR

March 8, 2023 by No Comments

When it comes to a different dining experience, some people opt for floating restaurants. While these may not be to everyone’s taste, they offer a different experience which can often be coupled with scenic views of the Portland river.

As you’d also expect with a floating restaurant, seafood makes up the bulk of the menu. In fairness, it would be a bit weird if this wasn’t the case. So, if you’re after something unique that goes against the grain, then here are the top three boat-restaurants in the Portland OR area.

The Portland Spirit

Perhaps the largest boat in Portland, this is a popular boat restaurant that offers lunch, brunch, dinner, and sightseeing cruises along the Willamette River. A classy affair, you should expect to be well-dressed before attending as this is quite formal. Personally, I think everyone should experience this at night for the ultimate experience.

Address: 110 SE Caruthers St, Portland, OR 97214

The Sternwheeler Rose

Whilst the Portland Spirit may be impressive, the Sternwheeler Rose is a completely different animal altogether that is a throwback to a bygone era. Instead, this is a historic paddlewheel boat that offers dinner cruises along the Columbia River. Expect seafood dishes, friendly staff, and a very unique experience that can’t really be matched anywhere else.

Address: 299 SW Portage Rd, Cascade Locks, OR 97014

The Island Cafe

Technically, this isn’t a floating restaurant but it is unique in being situated on an island on the Columbia river. Unlike others on this list, it offers a casual dining experience with a menu featuring seafood, burgers, and salads. It also has an almost-Hawaiian feel to it and offers plenty of delicious cocktails too which makes it an ideal spot during the summer.
