This building has been in Oklahoma City for years – But no one knows what it is

If you’ve ever been down Classen Boulevard then you may have noticed this rather large, unique-looking building that looks like a giant Ferrero Rocher. While this has been dormant for years – it’s actually on the national register of historic places and was built back in 1958.

Although it now stands lifeless, the history of this place is quite interesting to say the least. In fact, in recent times – a number of different owners have tried their hand at turning it back into its former glory, but no one has succeeded.

Beginning its life, this building was originally a Citizens State Bank and it remained that way for many years. Now abandoned and run down, here’s a look at its more recent history. In short, in 2001 it ceased operations due to needing costly repairs and maintenance.

It was first announced by the Bank One president at the time that demolition was an option. Just one year later, it earned its historic status, which may have been done to protect it against future demolition attempts.

By 2011, a woman named Irene Lam owned it – but failed to pay property loans, so it then got sold to a Oklahoman named David Box who tried to demolish it just two years later. Eventually, it was then sold to a group named TEEMCO in 2013. Unfortunately, this group then sold it two years later due to financial troubles, to a property development company that recently tried to get it transformed into a music venue in 2021. Since then, nothing has happened.

Understandably, there’s a lot of recent history about this place and based on its numerous failed attempts at ownership, you could argue that it’s cursed.
