This is the only Kmart in Miami – And locals are LOVING it

July 6, 2023 by 3 Comments

At its peak, Kmart was a national empire with over 2,400 US stores and a whopping $37 billion in annual revenue. Today, it has a mere three stores left – and one of them is based in Miami. As a result, you could say that Miami residents should be quite blessed to have a relic sitting on their doorstep.

This may come as a shock to some, who assumed that the store was long gone. However, it still remains and is located in the Kendale lake plaza shopping center. Having said this, looking at it from the outside, it does look to be on its knees and could do with a bit of care. Nonetheless, you may expect this considering it’s the last of a dying breed.

Interestingly, it turns out that Miami is a bit of a hotspot for old retail stores, as it also has a Sears in the city as well. However, don’t celebrate too soon. This Kmart doesn’t have a Little Caesars on site – which apparently got removed in 2018.

What’s also interesting about this store is that many locals remarked on driving past it while assuming it had closed years ago. As the yellow sign says, “We’re open, come on in!” which is literally the case. So, if you want to support Kmart or go visit as a nostalgic one-off then get down to Kendale lake plaza shopping center. Just don’t expect too much in the way of customer service – but then again Kmart was always like this!

WOW lucky me, I happen to have the same address but am 5 blocks to the north of that store. SometimesI would need to go to KMART for my mail. And now I still have that problem. Has anyone here and reading this been back in this now smaller version. KMART now is where their garden supply was, same parking lot, just down to the west end near Marshall’s is.

I remember when Kmart started. Now only 3 stores.

I use to live near a huge Kmart that had everything I needed to buy and I loved going. But what is left is nothing like what it was. I’m sad to say that I think it’s days are numbered, especially since there is a huge Target just a few blocks down.
